在60年代的香港，火水爐是明火煮食的爐具，以煤油作燃料。 火水爐使用方便, 很快便取代了燒柴、炭的傳統爐具， 火水爐以鐵皮製成，基座有個鐵箱，注滿火水。 火水由十數條棉線(燈芯)吸引至火水爐的頂部。 在生火煮食前，用家以火柴或打火機點火， 把火水爐頭露出半寸的棉線點燃，放上水煲即可使用。 火水爐通常是藍色及綠色，有圓形及方形兩種。
